Korg Inc. is a manufacturing company based in Japan that deals with electronic musical instruments, guitar pedals, and audio processors as well as recording equipment.

Korg History

The company was established under the name Keio Electronic Laboratories back in 1963 as an international corporation company. The founders of Korg were Tsutomu Kato and Tadashi Osanai who later partnered with Fumio Mieda. Korg has since then made a mark in producing electronic musical instruments based on innovation, creativity and technological expertise contributions. With the release of its first electronic musical instrument in 1963; the Disc Rotary Electric Auto Rhythm machine, many top musicians have made Korg products the instruments of choice.

In 1967, an engineer by the name Fumio Mieda approached Korg with the idea of building keyboards. This earned the company the name KORG as a brand name derived from the co-founders’ initials plus RG. Korg enjoyeda large segment of the keyboard and programmable organ market share in the late 1960s through mid-1970s and realized the need to build a keyboard to suit the synthesizer market. Before 2010, Korg was enjoying a monopoly distribution of Marshall Amplification product in the United States of America for a number of decades.
